The Allison Model 250 Aircraft Engine

The Allison Model 250 is a reverse airflow turbo-shaft engine developed in the early 1960's for Helicopter and Turbo-prop aircraft. Initially the Allison Model 250 used a small axial compressor feeding a centrifugal compressor but later variants have used a centrifugal compressor only. In 1995 Rolls Royce acquired the Allison Engine Company and since then has marketed the engine as the Rolls-Royce M250, total production has now exceeded 30,000 engines and the majority of these are still in operation. It is of note that US military variants of the Allison Model 250 are designated as the T63 and T703, MTU in Germany produces the Allison Model 250 under licence.
