The Rolls Royce Avon Aircraft Engine

The Rolls Royce Avon is one of the most important engines ever produced by Rolls Royce, the Avon was Rolls Royce first axial flow jet engine and first ran in 1946, it's first flight as an aircraft power plant was in 1950 and it remained in production for 24 years, even now it is still produced as a 21,480 shp power-source to run electricity generators and other high power requirement devices. The Rolls Royce design team for the Avon was lead by Cyril Lovesey who had been been the head of Rolls Royce Merlin development during WW2, the Avon was intended to be an axial flow replacement engine for the older Rolls-Royce Nene centrifugal compressor jet engine.
