Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka Kamikaze Plane

The Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka or "cherry blossom" was conceived by Ensign Mitsuo Ohta and used as a anti-ship kamikaze aircraft - effectively a purpose built manned flying bomb. The Ohka was taken to within 20 nautical miles of the target underneath a twin engine bomber or a catapult equipped submarine, it then made a rocket powered attack dive against the target ship, approximately 750 operational MXY-7 Ohka's were built but the majority were fortunately never used. The U.S. Navy sailors at the receiving end of the Ohka gave it the nickname Baka (Japanese for "fool" or "idiot").
