Sikorsky S-61N Military Helicopter

The Sikorsky S-61N is the civilian version of the SH-3 Sea King helicopter which was produced as an amphibious anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopter for the US Navy from the early 1960's.

The picture of this Sikorsky S-61N is used courtesy of Pete Klinger, the helicopter operated in the US until 2005 as a 28 seat passenger transport, then by the Canadian company VIH Helicopters Ltd from 2006 as C-FQNG.

VIH Helicopters converted the helicopter into a water bomber with a detachable 4000 Litre under belly water tank fillable via a built in snorkel system. From 2009 VIH Helicopters operated this helicopter in Australia for FESA (Western Australia's Fire & Emergency Services Authority) fighting bush fires.

  • Cruise speed: 120 kn (222 km/h)
  • Range: 450 NM (833 km)
  • Service ceiling: 12,500 ft (3,810 m)
  • Rate of climb: 1310 to 2220 ft/min (400–670 m/min)
