It is noteworthy that the prototype Boeing E-8 Joint STARS were deployed to Iraq in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm where they successfully tracked Iraqi tanks and Scud missile launchers before it's official introduction later in the year. A total of 17 E-8 Joint STARS have been produced, the last being delivered in March 2005 and have been used by the United States Air Force, Air National Guard and United States Army.
