Ryan PT 22 Recruit Military Trainer Aircraft

The Ryan PT-22 Recruit was designed in the MID 1930's and entered service in 1940 with the United States Army Air Corps, by the end of production 1273 aircraft had been produced and most remained in service until the end of WW2, consequently many of the US pilots of WWII learned to fly in these machines. Although primarily used by the armed forces of the US, Ryan PT-22 Recruits was also operated by China and Ecuador as a military trainer.

  • Engine: Single 160 hp (120 kW) Kinner R-540
  • Maximum speed: 125 mph (200 km/h)
  • Range: 205 miles (330 km)
  • Service ceiling: 15,400 ft (4,700 m)
 
Monoplane Trainer

The Ryan PT 22 Recruit was the first monoplane trainer to be used by the United States Army Air Corps, it was originally fitted with wheel spats but these were dispensed with early in the aircrafts production history to facilitate easier maintenance for the ground crew.
