Albatros D.V Fighter WW1 Fighter

The Albatros D.V and D.Va Fighters were the last operational variant of the famous Albatros D fighters used by the Imperial German Air Service during WWI. The Albatros D.V became operational in May 1917 and soon proved to have severe structural problems, especially in it's lower wings, performance was generally poor by contemporary standards.

Manfred von Richthofen (the infamous Red Baron) described the Albatros D.V only eight weeks after it's introduction as "obsolete and so ridiculously inferior to the English that one can't do anything with this aircraft.", unfortunately for the Imperial German Air Service, until the introduction of the Fokker D.VII, there was no viable alternative aircraft. A total of 2,512 D.V's are believed to have been built by the time production ended in early 1918.
