| | Picture of Hawker Hurricane XII WW2 Fighter | The Hawker Hurricane XII was virtually a Hawker Hurricane IIB but was built by Canadian Car & Foundry in Canada for the RCAF. A total of 474 Hawker Hurricane Mk XII's were built and equipped ten Royal Canadian Air Force squadrons based in Canada. The most obvious difference between the British built Hawker Hurricane IIB and the Canadian built Hurricane Mk XII was the use of an American built 1,300 hp (969 kW) Packard Merlin 29 engine and the American type of instrumentation and radio equipment preferred by the RCAF. Early Hurricane Mk XII's were fitted with a twelve 0.303 machine gun wing, later aircraft were fitted with a four 20 mm cannon wing. |
