| | Picture of Kawanishi N1K2-J George WW2 Fighter | The Kawanishi N1K Kyōfū or "Strong Wind" WWII navy fighter was the Japanese carrier based version of the land based Kawanishi N1K-J Shiden or "Violet Lightning" fighter and entered service in 1944. The Kawanishi N1K proved to be a highly effective and heavily armed fighter, codenamed by the allies the George, it played an important role in the Pacific theatre during the later part of WW2, fortunately for the allied forces there were insufficient numbers of this excellent WWII fighter to reverse the direction of the war, only 415 fighters being built, this was a direct result of the American Air Force bombing factories producing both it and it's associated ancillary equipment. |
